The Wall Street Journal (1/17, D3, Wang, Subscription Publication) reports "In the Lab" on the importance of the body's enteric nervous system, also known as the "gut brain," which is capable of functioning independently of the brain. Research has shown that issues in the gut may also precipitate issues in the brain, just as anxiety may cause stomach upset.
